Labin was first mentioned in 285AD when it was called Albono. Evidence of occupation from the Bronze Age can be found in and around the town, and it has a long history under Roman rule. It is the birthplace of Matthias Flacius Illyricus, the reformer and collaborator of Martin Luther, and has a rich coal mining history as the largest centre for coal mining in the whole of Croatia.
Everywhere you look you will find evidence of the town's colourful history and there are plenty of museums if you want to explore further.
