Labin was first mentioned in 285AD when it was called Albono. Evidence of occupation from the Bronze Age can be found in and around the town, and it has a long history under Roman rule. It is the birthplace of Matthias Flacius Illyricus, the reformer and collaborator of Martin Luther, and has a rich coal mining history as the largest centre for coal mining in the whole of Croatia.
Everywhere you look you will find evidence of the town's colourful history and there are plenty of museums if you want to explore further.
If you are looking for family-friendly days out, Labin is a great place to stay. There are the beaches of Rabac nearby for relaxing days playing in the sea and sunbathing. Boat tours are available from Pula to Brijuni National Park, which are great for seeking out the local wildlife. Plus, the Roman amphitheatre and fortress in Pula town itself is a fascinating place to run around and explore and let little imaginations run wild. There is also Istralandia Waterpark nearby to amuse children of all ages, which has great facilities and promises endless hours of fun.
