The earthquake in 1953 destroyed many of the island’s towns and villages, however, Fiskardo, located on the east of the island, somehow managed to survive. Without doubt, it is Kefalonia’s prettiest village, consisting of 18th century Venetian architecture. The bay area is an absolute delight, with many of the houses operating as upmarket seafood restaurants and cafes, where you can enjoy a coffee whilst overlooking the ships, bobbing up and down in the harbour.We have an array of villas in Fiskardo, which make for a great base for exploring this area.
Along the southwest coast, the capital city of Argostoli can be found. Despite it predating the 1950s, much of the town was destroyed during the earthquake, but it has since been rebuilt with a modern style. Here you can find a small museum with artefacts from previous periods. Following a trip to the museum, explore the capital and frequent some of the cafes and restaurants.
