Take a stroll starting from the main square where the magnificent 6th-century Euphrasian Basilica stands proud. Meander along the cobblestoned streets that lead down to the waterfront lined with restaurants, bars and cafes perfect for a bite to eat or drink whilst watching the sunset. From here you can even experience a boat trip to Venice for the day. It’s the perfect mix of old and new creating an inviting holiday ambience.

Things to do in Porec

With its long turbulent history, there is no wonder there are so many sights to explore. Visit the wonderfully preserved 6th-century Euphrasian Basilica and see the gleaming gold mosaics. Explore the basilica's baptistry and UNESCO-protected Bishop's Palace. There are beautiful bays to explore too, Zelena (Green Bay) and Plava Laguna (Blue Lagoon), and lots of hiking and cycling opportunities. If you want to shop for souvenirs there are plenty of elegant boutiques, and you can try delicious fresh seafood in one of the chic restaurants. History and culture in Porec

Like all of Croatia, Porec has a long and fascinating history. It dates to prehistoric times and was called Picugi when it was home to the Illyrian tribe called Histri around 800BC. In 129BC the Roman's captured the town, but since then it has passed through the hands of the Venetian Empire, the Austrian Empire and Italy. It suffered badly in World War II when 75% of the houses in the town were destroyed. It went to Yugoslavia in 1947 until Croatia declared itself independent in 1991.

There are many things to see and do on family days out both in and around Porec. Visit the Baredine Caves and see the amazing stalactites, stalagmites and underground lakes, or explore the aquarium in the heart of the town centre. You can also enjoy boat trips to Sveti Nikola Island and day trips to nearby Pula, Medulin and Plitvice National Park. Plus, there is the incredible Aqua Colors Porec, the largest waterpark in Croatia which has 13 waterslides, two large pools and playgrounds to keep children and teenagers happy all day long. Adventurous activities in Porec

Croatia is a country which is ideal if you love the great outdoors and adventure activities. Go water skiing, diving and sailing if you love the water. There are 250 kilometres of marked cycling trails in and around Porec, including the Paranzana, a scenic 60-kilometre trail. If you prefer walking, there are plenty of hikes for relaxing walks or more strenuous days out. 

Romance in Porec

For couples, Porec is a wonderful place to visit. Stroll down The Decumanus, the main street in Porec and enjoy a romantic evening out. Sip cocktails amid the Roman ruins of atmospheric Comitium and stroll along the bay. There are also opportunities to enjoy olive oil and wine tasting, or you may prefer a relaxing day on the beach or a day soaking up the sun from your private villa ideal for couples
