Pisa is a lived-in local city and thriving university town, and wandering its streets you'll find plenty to do, like stopping for a coffee (or spritz) in café-lined squares, exploring galleries like the Palazzo Blu and shopping on the buzzing Corso Italia and the more up-market Borgo Stretto. The beaches near Pisa are also pretty fantastic, with sprawling sandy Viareggio just 15-minutes away and more exclusive Forte dei Marmi just a 30-minute journey from our villas in Pisa. Both are easily reached by a cheap and speedy train, which are easily accessible throughout Italy.

Of course, there’s the Leaning Tower, standing crooked in the Piazza dei Miracoli flanked the grand Romanesque Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the free-standing Baptistry – which took over 200 years to complete.
