Argassi is the closest resort to the island’s capital, Zakynthos, a small but modern resort town stretching from the foothills of Mount Skopos to Xirocastelo and the Vasilikos Peninsular. With a diverse range of fine dining restaurants and traditional tavernas, Argassi comes alive at night. Argassi’s beautiful rural location at the foothills of Mount Skopos with a pine forest, lemon trees and wildflowers makes the perfect destination for a romantic villa holiday or even a honeymoon.. The main road is lined with shops, bars and tavernas ideal for arranging that special evening out, or simply pick that romantic spot on the beach to chill out and relax together, as the sun sets over the clear blue sea.
The gulf where the beach of Argassi is located is beautiful to admire in the day and at night. You can see both the small town of Argassi and the main city of Zakynthos. Argassi beach consists of many small bays with snack bars and restaurants. The greenness and the waters here partly hide the ancient ruins of a Roman bridge.
Close by to Argassi it is possible to visit the ruins of old churches, houses, bridges and aqueducts, some close to the sea, whilst others are located more inland and hidden by vegetation. Explore the mountains by car stopping off at the viewpoint overlooking the famous picturesque Shipwreck Bay on the north west side of the island. Wander up to the ruins of the Venetian castle admiring the view as the lights of the town start to twinkle as the sun goes down, creating one of the most beautiful views in Greece.
The beach of Argassi is sandy with warm, shallow clear sea water perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The more adventurous can have a go at the water sports provided here, including jet skiing and canoeing.
Don’t miss a visit to Gerakas and Dafni beaches, both of which form the National Marine Park that protects the turtles. Although they are closed to the public at sun down, to help protect the endangered animals, there is still a chance to spot them from a distance as they make their way up the beach. It is also possible to rent jeeps, motorbikes and bicycles from the town so you can easily explore and have fun at your own pace.
