There’s something for everyone in Brindisi, the bustling yet laid-back port city on the eastern shores of Puglia, just across the sea from Albania and Corfu. Many travellers pass through Brindisi’s airport on the way to the likes of Lecce and Ostuni, but Brindisi is so much more than a gateway city, with an intoxicating vibe, plenty of nearby beaches, many historical sights and some great attractions for the whole family. Choose Brindisi to wander down the palm-fringed Via Garibaldi, to explore the port and harbour and gawk at monuments like the island Aragonese Castle.

Brindisi was one the terminus of the famed Roman road Appian Way, and during the Norman era, it was the departure point for the crusaders off to the Near East. Today travellers can live that exciting history, by visiting the Tempio di San Giovanni al Sepolcro, (modelled after the Church of Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem) and Brindisi's archaeological museum with thousands of Hellenistic Greek bronze sculptures and artefacts from the city's tumultuous history.
