Ostuni is one of the most stunning cities in Puglia, if not the whole of Italy. Travellers see Ostuni, or La Citta Bianca, long before they arrive, gleaming from atop a citadel and surrounded by deep blue coastline and carpets of olive groves. Quintessentially Puglian, Ostuni is known for its dazzling white-washed old town and its Gothic, Byzantine and Romanesque buildings, along with a famous museum, archaeological sites and many beautiful churches. Down a labyrinth of side streets, you'll find time-worn trattorias, Cinquecentos and Vespas parked underneath handing washing lines, while the city's defensive walls offer dazzling views over the azure Adriatic.

Things to do in Ostuni

Our villas in Ostuni are located in the lush countryside and farmland that surround the city, and villa guests can either walk into the city or hire a car and explore further afield. Head into the town to explore its maze of cobbled streets, perhaps stopping in a café for aperitivo or browsing a local artisan shop for trinkets, olive oils and local produce. Combine a trip into town with a visit to the Civic Museum and Archaeological Park, housing the skeleton of a woman from Palaeolithic times, and the Cathedral of St Mary the Assumption. Dining in Ostuni is also a treat, with the picturesque Via Indipendenza packed with cafes and restaurants serving seafood, sandwiches and delicious Pugliese cuisine. On Saturdays, there's a lively local market near the Via Gabbriele D'Annunzio selling fresh fruits, veggies and crafts.

While Ostuni itself is old and beautiful, an Ostuni villa holiday offers something for every traveller, from its nearby beaches and rural location to archaeological treasures and monuments. Our Ostuni villas are located near the town, situated in the surrounding lush countryside and farmland with spectacular views and private pools. Ostuni is also a short drive from the coast, 35 minutes to Brindisi and 30 minutes to Salento airport.

History and culture in Ostuni

There are many historical and cultural sites that you can visit from your villa in Ostuni, and the best place to start is in the historic town itself – namely its old town. High upon the gleaming white citadel, history lovers will be able to see the arched Porta San Demetrio, one of the city’s two remaining medieval gates, and the majestic Ostuni cathedral with its Romanesque, Gothic and Byzantine features, and that’s just the start. The Civic Museum and Archaeological Park also shouldn’t go a miss, with the 28,000-year-old remains of a pregnant woman from Palaeolithic times known as Ostuni 1.

For foodie-loving history buffs, why not visit the Masseria Brancati, a museum dedicated to olive oil with lots of delicious samples. From your Ostuni villa, it’s an easy visit to the Santuario di Sant’Oronzo complex on the northwest reaches of the town, a historic shrine with a triumphal arch.

Family holidays in Ostuni

Ostuni is a great location for a family villa holiday, and thanks to their rural and coastal location, many come with a private pool – perfect for families and multi-generational groups. Jump in a car and head to one of the handful of waterparks in the area, our favourites being the Ostuni Adventure Park, Aqua-In and Tsunami Water Park, with their pools, slides, rides and plenty of lounging spots for patient adults.

From our Ostuni villas, families can also choose from one of the coastline's many beautiful sandy beaches, Carovigno being Blue Flag certified with powder-soft sands, shallow waters and great facilities perfect for soaking up the hot southern Italian sun. Great news for parents, as even the fussiest kids will love Pugliese cuisine, think lots of fresh pasta, pizzettes, pretzels, stuffed sandwiches and gelato.

Romance in Ostuni

Make your Ostuni villa stay in the White City red hot by heading to the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and taking a seat at the viewpoint, or head into town to the Piazza della Liberta for a romantic dinner, live music and cocktails – both ideal for a date night. Alternatively, jump in a car and explore the lush Ostuni hinterlands, visiting the Ostuni Olive Oil Cooperative for a day of tasting olive oils, bread and local wines. Couples enjoying a romantic villa holiday will also love the nearby Cala Quarto di Monte beach, a small and charming stretch of sand fringed by gin-clear waters still under-the-radar from many tourists and a relaxing slice of paradise. When staying at one of our Ostuni couple’s villas, we recommend a villa with a private pool, giving you a private spot to watch the famous pink-hued sunset.
