History and Culture in Perugia

History and culture are the backbones of Perugia, a city known for its splendid 400-year old historic old town and the best art museum in Umbria. History lovers and culture vultures will go mad for our villas in Perugia, thanks so the plethora of sites and the many events and exhibitions that are held in the city throughout the year. Just walking through the city centre you'll find treasures like the San Pietro basilica with Caravaggio and Raphael paintings and the Palazzo dei Priori – a 13th-century Gothic palace once the seat of the city's government. With its fortress-like facade and tripartite windows, the Palazzo dei Priori houses the Nobile Collegio del Cambio, the former seat of the exchange guild and home to fresco masterpieces, and the world-famous National Gallery of Umbria. Don't miss venturing outside to see the citadel San Michele Arcangelo paleo-Christian temple, flanked by Cypress trees.

With a family villa holiday in Perugia, you have the freedom to do what you like, along with enjoying family days out in the local area. Close to our villas in Perugia is the Perugina chocolate family (home of the famous Baci chocolate), and chocoholic families will love its factory tours and chocolate-making classes.
