Perugia is like something out of a movie, a terracotta-hued town tumbling down a hilltop overlooking the rolling green valleys of Umbria. Perugia is the lively and historic capital of the region, known for its beautiful hilltop setting and grand old buildings, with a well-preserved medieval centre, university and myriad of churches and sights. A villa holiday in Perugia allows you to experience the most lively and exciting destination in Umbria, with our villas located in the stunning countryside and forests around the citadel city. Choose a villa in Perugia to see the famous Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria – the best art museum in Umbria – experience its gleaming old town and admire gothic and renaissance architecture.

Things to do in Perugia

As the capital of Umbria, you'll never run out of things to do when staying in one of our Perugia villas. From your luxury Perugia villa in the rolling Umbrian hills, it's just a short trip into town, where you can wander the old town and see sights like Etruscan stone archways, grand marble fountains and many fortresses. Make sure to soak up the atmosphere in the Piazza IV Novembre near the city's cathedral before heading to the National Gallery of Umbria with its 40 exhibition rooms. Combine a trip into town with a stop at one of the mouth-watering restaurants serving up local Umbrian cuisine, all serving up delights from the surrounding countryside like truffles, prosciutto and pecorino and caciotta cheese.

If you're after lazy days when staying in one of our Perugia villas then you're also in luck, as they come with private pools, incredible views over the valley and plenty of space for the whole family – or just the two of you. Enjoy a villa holiday in Perugia in June and you'll get to experience the world-famous 10-day Umbria Jazz Festival, where the city comes alive with performances and events.

A villa holiday in Perugia allows you to do as a little or as much as you want, be it lounging in your Perugia villa with a private pool in the nearby Cypress-tree covered hills or imbibing all the city has to offer.

History and Culture in Perugia

History and culture are the backbones of Perugia, a city known for its splendid 400-year old historic old town and the best art museum in Umbria. History lovers and culture vultures will go mad for our villas in Perugia, thanks so the plethora of sites and the many events and exhibitions that are held in the city throughout the year. Just walking through the city centre you'll find treasures like the San Pietro basilica with Caravaggio and Raphael paintings and the Palazzo dei Priori – a 13th-century Gothic palace once the seat of the city's government. With its fortress-like facade and tripartite windows, the Palazzo dei Priori houses the Nobile Collegio del Cambio, the former seat of the exchange guild and home to fresco masterpieces, and the world-famous National Gallery of Umbria. Don't miss venturing outside to see the citadel San Michele Arcangelo paleo-Christian temple, flanked by Cypress trees.

Family holidays in Perugia

What could be more relaxing than lounging in one of our Perugia villas with a private pool, why the kids splash away and you and your group (or partner) enjoy drinks with incredible views? With a family villa holiday in Perugia, you have the freedom to do what you like, along with enjoying family days out in the local area. Close to our villas in Perugia is the Perugina chocolate family (home of the famous Baci chocolate), and chocoholic families will love its factory tours and chocolate-making classes. If you fancy introducing your kids to Italian art, then head into the city for a (short) visit to the National Museum of Umbria. Teens and older children staying in one of our family villas will also appreciate the vibrant Umbria Jazz Festival that takes over the streets of Perugia in July with parties, street concerts and exciting events.
