Madeira is Portugal’s answer to the Garden of Eden and is one of the prettiest destinations going. Known as the floating garden island, Madeira more than lives up to its name. With its fantastic year-round climate, luxuriant natural beauty, walking trails, soaring cliff faces and a beautifully relaxed ambience, Madeira is the perfect destination for a family villa holiday or a winter sun escape. With so much to see and do, a villa holiday in Madeira is ideal for all ages.

Things to do in Madeira

Madeira is famous across the world for its numerous and varied gardens, so visiting these is a must. Visit one of the beautiful botanical gardens, including the Botanical Gardens at Quinta do Bom Sucesso in Funchal, Monte’s Municipal Gardens and the Quinta Magnolia Gardens. The best way to see Madeira is on foot, so join one of the many Levada walks across the island. If it's a relaxing day on the beach you are looking for, then take to the waves and hop on a ferry to tranquil Porto Santo, fringed with a coastline that could have been plucked right out of the Caribbean. You will also see some marine life, whales migrate past the island so keep your eyes peeled.

A villa holiday with groups of friends allows you to explore all of this and more.

History and Culture in Madeira

Madeira is home to stunning Levada walks, found all over the island are these famous walking trails which run alongside open irrigation channels with different levels of difficulty for all abilities. These routes date back to the early 16th-century, when the Levadas were created to distribute water around the island, these waterways are still used today to move water across the island to reach populations and farms. Perhaps round off your exploring with an afternoon tea at Reids Palace or with a cocktail back at your villa with a private pool.

As Spring is in full bloom after Easter, Madeira holds a weekend-long follower festival full of parades, exhibitions, workshops and lots of colour. The Atlantic festival, held in June herald the arrival of summer. Massive fireworks displays with music are held every Saturday as well as a series of events all months.
