Maspalomas is a town in the south of Gran Canaria with the second longest beach on the island. Home to a vast expanse of dramatic coastal dunes and a beautiful lagoon with crystal-clear water. The Maspalomas Dunes form part of the nature reserve containing several ecosystems, including the La Charca Lagoon, palm groves and the dunes, all rich in birdlife. The Maspalomas Lighthouse is situated right in the middle of one of the most visited sections of coastline in Europe. The tall, slender Lighthouse has been operating since the late 19th Century.

Things to do in Maspalomas

Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés and Meloneras offer plenty of leisure options during the day and an attractive nightlife surrounding the beaches after the sun has set.  There is a busy promenade area with a whole host of restaurants and gift shops, the perfect place to have a little shopping spree. Stop off here after a day at the beach for a drink or two or perhaps go out for dinner with a seaside view. Just a few metres from the promenade, marks the start of the Maspalomas Natural Dune Reserve, the whole area is an enormous and an exceptionally valuable natural space. History and Culture in Maspalomas

Maspalomas is well known for its Lighthouse, the building of the lighthouse started in 1861, but took 28 long years to finish. At the time, the place was an uninhabited, desert paradise, cut off from the rest of the island. In order to build the lighthouse, which stands 55 metres high, they used a dock with a small ramp to unload the materials, which could only be brought in by sea. The lighthouse light shone for the first time on 1st February 1890 helping to guide steamboats sailing between Europe, Africa and America.

Family holidays in Maspalomas

There is plenty to keep the family busy on a Maspalomas villa holiday. You could easily spend several  hours trekking up or sliding down the impressive sand dunes or maybe just relaxing and building an extravagant sandcastle by the waters edge.  Palmitos Park is a zoological botanical park located just 10km from the Maspalomas Lighthouse, ideal for a family fun day out. Sioux City Park Western Adventure offers a different kind of family adventure, taking you back to the days of the Wild West, with a replica town, cowboy demonstrations and gunfights. They also have dwarf crocodiles and Jersey Giant chickens you can take a closer look at. One of the best days out is perhaps a boat trip to see the local marine life including pilot whales, bottlenose dolphins, green turtles and flying fish. Our villas for families are the ideal base from which to explore everything that Maspalomas has to offer.
