Things to do in Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands. With its abundance of sun-warmed beaches, deep gorges, dramatic cliffs, dense forests, and lush valleys filled with thriving banana plantations, the island offers an impressive variety of things to do. Snorkelling, windsurfing, sailing, hiking, and cycling are just a few of the activities possible here. You can even explore the island’s volcanic caves and tunnels, which are among some of the largest in the world. Tenerife is also known for its nightlife, attracting revellers from all over the world. The famous Playa de las Americas region has plenty of fun to discover, plus six safe, sandy beaches, duty-free shops along with great tapas and family friendly restaurants.
The family friendly beaches in Tenerife, along with the popular facilities make it one of the most sought after family locations when it comes to villa holidays in Europe.

History and Culture in Tenerife

Although the island is highly urbanized, there are still pockets of distinctive local culture and sightseeing which can be done at a slower pace. Tenerife is rich with unique architectural, historical and natural attractions with interesting museums and cultural centres. In the eastern part of the island there is one of the most mysterious attractions, the Pyramids of Guimar. The main building materials in the construction of pyramids were blocks carved out of the lava placed on top of each other. The purpose for which they were built remains a mystery of the island. The southern part of the island, is home to the beautiful castle of San Miguel, located near the picturesque town of the same name. The castle was built relatively recently as an arena for jousting and theatre, and it is an exact replica of a real-life medieval fortress.

Family holidays in Tenerife

Most tourists flock to the South coast of the island, which enjoys the most sheltered beaches with imported golden sand and where there is a great selection of family villas. Families will love the water parks in the south whilst nature enthusiasts will be in their element with whale-watching tours to see the island's resident pilot whales. If you want to explore the volcano with the family but don’t want to hike, it’s surprisingly easy to ascend Mount Teide by cable car with some spectacular views on offer.

With warm weather guaranteed all year round, it's no wonder that Tenerife is popular for a winter sun villa holiday.
