Halkidiki is renowned for natural scenery and there are plenty of walking trails to explore, and endless stretches of beach to enjoy. SPL Villas have beautiful villas in the north of Greece, located in the region of Halkidiki. Split across three peninsulas, which lie in the Aegean Sea, Halkidiki offers a combination of stunning scenery and a wealth of beaches to explore.
Legend has it that Halkidiki was the site of a huge battle involving Zeus, Olympian Gods to the Giants, children of Gaea and Uranus. It is said that the leader of the Giants, Enceladus was buried on the peninsula of Kassandra and his unrest and his attempts to flee his tomb are supposedly the sources of any earthquake within the area.
The peninsula of Kassandra takes its name from Cassander the King of Macedonia who ruled Greece after the death of Alexander the Great.
Sithonia, one of the most beautifulk peninsulas is named after Sithon, the son of Poseidon, the god of the sea. The final peninsula, Mount Athos, is named after the giant Athos, who is said to have thrown a huge rock into the sea following a battle with Poseidon. The rock still stands today as the peninsula and Mount Athos or Holy Mountain is now a UNSECO world heritage site.
