Why These Islands Are Perfect for a Winter Break

Not dreaming of a white Christmas this year? Not to worry, we’ve got you covered.

If you’re longing for a Christmas getaway filled with glistening rays of sun, smooth, golden sand and crystal-clear sea, look no further than the Canary Islands. This Spanish island cluster is home to warm climates all year round, meaning your winter holidays aren’t just limited to a skiing trip in the crisp, cold snow.

You might think that seeking winter sun holidays would be tricky in Europe, but Christmas in the Canaries is perfect for getting that vitamin D fix and topping up that summertime tan. So, pack your bags and let’s get straight into why we think the Canaries are the perfect choice for a fun-filled festive getaway.

Fuerteventura

With sun-kissed sand, turquoise waves and an unforgettable state of peaceful tranquillity, the beaches of Fuerteventura are arguably the best throughout the whole of the Canaries. With sand so white and waves so clear, we guess you could return home and still say you experienced a white Christmas after all.

And although the thought of going for a dip in December might make you shudder, the all-year-round mild weather means that you won’t be able to resist those azure waters. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the sea, especially for a New Year’s dive, which supposedly brings you good fortune for the year to come.

With villas dotted in Caleta de Fuste and Corralejo, you won’t be short of the winter sun. Whether you want to do nothing but relax on your Christmas break or you want to get stuck into water sports and explore the scenic beauty of the island, Fuerteventura can promise you both. Additionally, Corralejo boasts natural wonders like the Sand Dunes and Natural Park, so you’ll never be short of things to do and sights to see.

Gran Canaria

Potentially the best Canary Island for winter sun, Gran Canaria isn’t just a pretty beach. Boasting magnificent warm weather, impressive natural beauty, tonnes of activities for the whole family and delightful local villages, Gran Canaria is the perfect Christmas hideaway.

Swap out cold Christmas grottos and busy, bustling high streets for a warm paradise and peaceful meandering through festive Christmas markets instead, something that every Gran Canaria town will host throughout the month of December.

And Christmas doesn’t just have to stop on the 25th in the Canaries, with the annual Three Wise Men parade extending far into the New Year on the night of January 5th, one of the main Christmas traditions in Spain. So, be sure to extend your celebrations and festivities way into the New Year so that you can prolong returning to the dreary reality of January for a little while longer.

Beauty and wonder line every corner of Gran Canaria, so just as well that we have luxury villas scattered all across the island. From the panoramic views in Monte Leon to the quiet, subdued spot of San Agustin, there’s something to suit everyone, whether you’re travelling as a couple or after some fun for all the family.

Lanzarote

Home to lively nightlife, family-friendly fun and awe-inspiring, dramatic landscapes naturally crafted out of volcanic activity, Lanzarote is the perfect destination for someone looking for winter sun holidays. The black sand born out of volcanic ash is quite the contrast to the white sands of Fuerteventura, but still beautiful and dramatic nonetheless. And of course, still gloriously sunny in the month of December.

Flea markets are prominent in Lanzo and perfect to visit during your Christmas in Spain. Whether you’re a little last minute on the present buying or just after a relaxing wander around, get ready to be unable to resist the little handmade delights and trinkets that populate the flea markets. For example, you’ll spot expertly painted pottery and intricate ceramics, all wonderful Christmas gifts for a loved one back home, or just a souvenir to bring back in your suitcase to cherish and help you remember your Canary Island Christmas.

From the bustling, lively streets of Puerto del Carmen to the peaceful serenity of Playa Blanca, we’ve got tonnes of beautiful villas in the Canary Islands for you and all the family to enjoy and treat as your home for the Christmas holidays.

Tenerife

As the biggest island in the Canaries, you’ll never be at a loss for things to do in Tenerife. Whether you want action-packed sports like snorkelling or simply a steady hike up the highest peak in Spain, Mount Teide, it’s no wonder that holiday goers flock to the island every year for their pinch of never-ending sun and picturesque beauty.

Because of its popularity, especially over the winter, you won’t be short of family-friendly restaurants to enjoy a proper Christmas dinner. However, across all the Canaries, one of the main days/nights for fun-filled festivities and celebrations is actually the 24th, called Nochebuena (the Good Night), where you can enjoy a traditional seafood feast to make sure you’ve ticked off all the iconic Christmas in Spain traditions.

Our villas are located in Costa Adeje, a beautiful haven of sand-swept beaches and stunning scenery, all just a short distance away from the always popular Playa de Las Americas resort, a place peppered with restaurants, shops and busy nightlife in case you want to dance the night away.
