The Canary Isles: Where to go for Winter sun

A perfect escape from the British winter, the Canary Islands are Spain's most southern region. Situated off the East coast of Africa and geographically closer to Morocco than Europe, the weather in the wintery Canary Islands can often be warmer than a UK summer. With eight main islands to choose from and a number of smaller uninhabited islands scattered throughout the archipelago, it can be hard to know which island is best suited for some winter sun.

If you're anything like us, you'll find part of the fun is deciding where to go, so we thought we'd use our extensive knowledge to help you pick the best location for your next villa holiday.

Tenerife - guaranteed Winter sun

Winter sun holiday in Tenerife

The biggest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife, would be our recommendation for those who want something different every hour of the day. With an almost endless list of things to do, visit, and see, Tenerife is a treasure trove of delights.

Whether you're looking for a round of golf amongst palm trees and clear blue skies, a thrill-seeking water slide in what may be one of the best waterparks in the world, or a rewarding hike up Spain's highest peak; Tenerife has something for everyone looking to make the most of the winter sun.

Our villas are situated on Costa Adeje, an attractive part of the island on the southern side. Sunny 320 days a year, this slice of Tenerife is just north of the hugely popular Playa de las Americas, an excellent location for family-friendly beaches, nearby attractions and a wide range of shops and restaurants. Our Tenerife villas offer the perfect getaway for couples and families looking to enjoy every second of this winter sun destination

Fuerteventura - Beachgoers paradise

Famous for its beaches, Fuerteventura is technically the oldest of the Canary Islands, but don't let its age deceive you; it's also one of the most beautiful. One of the perks of being on an island like this is the constant proximity to the beach and the sea, making it the ideal destination for anyone interested in catching a few rays or trying their hand at watersports.

Typically, the suggestion of going for a dip in December would put almost anyone off, but with mild weather all year round, you won't want to forget your swimwear or your suncream for the winter sun!

Aside from the island's natural beauty, there's a rich culture and history to be found in the streets of cities, revealing Fuerteventura's fascinating past. Unique to the island and a must-try for any visitor is the specialist Majorero cheese, made from milk provided by goats found only on the island.

Winter sun holidays on the beach of Gran Canaria

With villas situated on the northern tip of Fuerteventura in the resort of Corralejo, you'll have easy access to family-friendly beaches, and a quick route into the capital city without having to worry about the hustle and bustle continuing throughout the night. When it comes to winter holiday destinations, our Fuerteventura villas are ideal for large groups who want easy access to the beach

Gran Canaria - warm weather all year round

Seen from above, Gran Canaria looks like a blob of green paint in an ocean of blue. The closer you get, the more vibrant the colours, and soon everywhere you look is a feast for the eyes. From peaceful fishing villages with pastel coloured exteriors to white beaches with azure waves overlooked by fantastic promenades, there's a rich and dynamic feel to this island with almost constant winter sun - it’s one we're sure you're bound to enjoy.

Welcoming and family-friendly, Gran Canaria may be one of the smaller islands but is no less filled with things to do. The contrast between the cities packed with hidden gems and the rural areas with their abundance of natural beauty, means you can almost feel like you're moving from one island to another.

We have villas scattered around the island, and we have something for everyone in Gran Canaria. Whether you're looking for a mountain perch to enjoy the surrounding views or somewhere tucked away in a quieter part of the island with great beach access, we know you'll find the perfect villa to complement your holiday.

Lanzarote - great Winter breaks

Beach holiday in Lanzarote during winter
In comparison to the previous three, Lanzarote is an island of contrast. Born out of volcanic activity, the magma on Lanzarote left behind incredible rock shapes and black sands, turning this island into an otherworldly experience. Alongside its unique quirks, you can find stunning beaches, national parks and volcanic caves. Lanzarote is a must-see for those looking for something a little different.

Like much of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote is the perfect temperature all year round, making it ideal for exploring and finding some peace of mind. It's no wonder that this island is a frequent spot for athletes to hone their skills.

Our villas can be found across the island's southern edge, providing you with a mix of options to suit your tastes. With pools in all our villas and locations set in award-winning views and some of the finest marinas on the island, you can be sure one of our villas ticks all your winter sun boxes.

Our Winter sun villas

When it comes to winter sun, there are few locations that can guarantee a break like the Canary Islands. Rarely dipping below 18C, and with villas to suit all needs, booking one of our properties is an easy decision to make, the only difficult question is where!

We have a wide range available so don’t hesitate to book and add a little sun to your winter months.
