The Dubrovnik region is perhaps most famous for its incredibly beautiful city, Dubrovnik, which has captivated visitors for centuries with its magnificent city walls and polished marble streets, but the region has so much more to offer and is worth your time exploring. This is one of the most beautiful parts of Croatia and is the southernmost region which has glorious, secluded islands, vast national parks, traditional towns and villages, lush vineyards, endless pine forest and glorious sandy and pebbly beaches.
Things to do in the Dubrovnik Region
You cannot visit this part of Croatia and not visit the city of Dubrovnik. George Bernard Shaw was captivated by this incredible city, about which he said, “those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik”, and it is most certainly one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Here you will find polished marble streets which reflect the sunlight, elegant boutiques and cafes, a fascinating and quaint old town and red-roofed buildings.
For a taste of the region visit the Peljesac Peninsula where you can try the delicious wines. Visit the ancient vineyards, learn about the wine-making process and sample the different types of wine grown here. For beautiful scenery why not explore Mljet National Park or Lokrum island with its rocky shoreline and hidden bays? For a relaxing day in the sunshine, travel to stunning Lopud Island and spend the day on sandy Sunj Beach.

History and culture in the Dubrovnik Region
This glorious region is part of Dubrovnik-Neretva County and it is only just separated from Bosnia by the peaks of the Dinaric mountains. This beautiful region of Croatia was once part of the Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik), and the fertile fields of Konavle contributed to Dubrovnik's enormous wealth. The region's proximity to Bosnia put it in the crosshairs during the breakup up former Yugoslavia and some war damage is still visible south of Dubrovnik, particularly in Srebreno.
