Every holiday begins by deciding where to go, but pairing down your options when faced with the entirety of the Mediterranean can be tricky. With great weather, whichever direction you go, you're sure to have sunny weather, especially if you're travelling in the summer or autumn.

If you're looking to escape cold weather and bask in some winter sunshine, you might have to be more careful where you choose to visit, but you won't struggle to find rays if you go looking for them. We've written about wintering in the Med in the past, but often islands will provide the best opportunities for warm breezes and cloudless skies.

Holidaying on an island is often the best way to immerse yourself in a place or culture. Surrounded by sea and somewhat removed from outside influence, you're left to soak up the language, traditions and cuisines that make the destination unique.

A little research goes a long way, especially when planning which destination is best for you. If you're looking for easy access to the beach, try our beachfront villas, where you can step onto the sand in a matter of minutes. If you're looking for quieter destinations with stunning views you can wake up to, then Gran Canaria or Sicily may be for you. If you find it reassuring to know you're a short distance away from your morning coffee and the heart of the action, then villas in Florence, Marbella and Albufeira can provide you with something similar to a city break.

Night's in and out

Whether you're an early bird or a night owl, choosing where to spend your Mediterranean holiday needs to reflect how you want to spend your nights. What you want to do is entirely up to you, and we have a wide selection of villas stretching across the region to reflect the range of choices available.

If you're looking to celebrate out on the town with a night of dancing, Zakynthos and the Balearic Isles can provide the bright lights and thrills you may be after. Supposing you're more inclined to celebrate with a glass of wine, indulging in regional cuisine and uncovering hidden gems, cities like Dubrovnik and Italy's Puglia region all hold plenty to be discovered between dishes.  

If your evenings are best spent unwinding in each other's company in the comfort of your villa, then maybe a villa with an infinity pool would be ideal for you. If you want to inject some bubbles into your stay, then the addition of a hot tub might be what you're looking for!

Choosing how you want to spend your nights isn't an either/or situation. Most of our villas sit in the sweet spot between the middle of the action and rural escape, so you can easily choose between going out and staying in without having to worry about transportation or getting a night's rest.

Making memories

Our villas are situated so that you can get out and enjoy the surrounding area and make the most of your couple's holiday. What that means, though, is up to you. For some, trying new food and drink is the highlight; for the more adventurous, it can be engaging in outdoor activities, and for some, there's nothing better than simply relaxing on the beach and enjoying the warm weather.

Italy should be near the top of your list for couples looking for a culinary tour. Putting the 'delicacy' in 'local delicacies', every region has their take on how food is prepared, cooked and eaten. So while you may recognise a dish on the menu, trying it in Italy may be a whole new, mouth-watering experience. Likewise, if you're looking for fresh fish, simple ingredients and unforgettable plates, Cyprus can offer you a refreshing palate in the sun.  

Making the most of the warm weather is a must when you're on holiday; getting out and enjoying your destination is so much easier when the sun is shining, and the skies are clear. Many beaches offer the opportunity to try out water sports, whether surfing, water skiing, or simply going for a dip! If you both prefer dry land, you can try Dalmatia in Croatia, one of the most scenic spots in the Mediterranean, perfect for hiking, exploring and relaxing.

The Mediterranean offers the best beaches in Europe, and many of our villas are either on or near them. If you're looking for golden sands and bright blue seas, there are plenty of places you can visit. Turkey's Dalaman region in the southwest is home to the country's "Turquoise Coast", where the waters are crystal clear and welcoming. Closer to home, Sardinia in Italy has an incredible selection of beaches, each one sandier and more clear watered than the last.
